She came in nervous and left with photos she’ll keep forever-a real mom’s newborn session story.

I was recently on a call with a new mom, just a few weeks postpartum, back at work, breastfeeding around the clock. She told me she’d wanted to book a newborn session but had been nervous. Not because she didn’t want the photos, but because she just didn’t have the bandwidth for anything stressful. Sound familiar?
That feeling is so common, and so valid. You’re running on almost no sleep, you’re fiercely protective of this tiny new person, and the last thing you need is a high-pressure, rushed experience. I hear it all the time from new moms here in Shelby Township and the surrounding area: “I want the photos. I just don’t know if I can handle one more thing.”
Knowing what to expect during the newborn session is important. So let me walk you through exactly what it’s like to come into my studio from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave. Because this mom ended up loving every part of it. And I think you will too.

You’ll Walk Into Something That Feels Like a Sanctuary
One of the first things a recent client said when she walked into my Shelby Township studio was that she hadn’t realized how private and secluded it would feel. She told me that surprised her — in the best way. No other clients coming and going. No strangers. No germs. Just her, her husband, her brand-new baby, and a warm, quiet space.
And yes, warm is intentional. My studio is kept at a cozy temperature specifically for newborns, especially during those poses where baby might just be in a diaper or a light wrap. If it’s cold outside, you’ll feel that warmth the second you step in. That same mom told me knowing the studio was warm made her immediately more comfortable, because she knew her daughter would be comfortable too.

You’ll Know Within the First Minute That Baby Is in Good Hands
I know that handing your baby to someone, even a professional, can feel nerve-wracking when they’re only a few weeks old. That protectiveness is real and completely normal.
But here’s what I hear over and over: moms tell me that watching me work with their baby in those first moments is what finally lets them exhale. Working with newborns requires a specific kind of patience and skill knowing how to soothe them, how to read their cues, how to move them gently into poses while keeping them calm and settled. After five kids of my own, I genuinely love the newborn stage. It shows.
As that same client put it, watching me with her daughter in the very first minute made her feel so much better. That’s the goal every single time.
If you’re wondering what other Metro Detroit moms have experienced, I’d invite you to read their words directly. The reviews clients leave after their sessions remind me that every bit of training, learning, and investing in my craft is worth it.

You Don’t Have to Think About Posing. I’ll Guide You
A lot of moms worry about the family portion of the session. How do I hold her? Will I look okay? What do I do with my hands? You just had a baby, the last thing you want to feel is awkward or self-conscious in front of a camera.
I direct everything. I’ll tell you exactly how to hold baby, where to look, and how to position yourself in a way that feels natural and also looks beautiful. I’m thoughtful about angles that are flattering postpartum, things like your jawline, how you’re positioned, what the camera sees. You don’t have to think about any of that. I’ve got it covered.
One client told me she was actually glad I directed the posing, because juggling a tiny baby while trying to look good and hold her properly felt like too much to figure out on her own. That’s exactly why I take the lead.

Your Ordering Appointment Happens From Your Own Couch
Once your session is complete and your images are edited, we schedule a private ordering appointment over Google Meet. No need to pack the baby back up, buckle the car seat, or drive anywhere. You’ll be home comfortable, relaxed, and able to feed or settle baby whenever you need to.
During the call, we go through your proofs together. You’ll choose your favorites, and from there we’ll talk through your options whether that’s digital files, print products like wall art or albums, or a combination of both. There’s no pressure, no rushing. It’s a chance to really sit with your photos and decide what feels right for your home and your family.
This client who lives about 45 minutes away told me how much she appreciated not having to get back in the car with a newborn just to select photos. That convenience matters especially in those early weeks when every errand feels like a major undertaking.

Is It Worth It? Here’s What Moms Say
That same client, exhausted, breastfeeding around the clock said her photos were way beyond her expectations. She’d known they’d be cute. She hadn’t expected to be blown away by the quality, or by how her daughter stayed calm and posed through the whole session.
She’s already referred four of her mom friends.
Her advice to any nervous mom considering booking? “It’s worth it, even if you’re exhausted, even if you’re a little nervous. You’re never going to have pictures of them that little again in that high quality.”

Ready When You Are
My studio is located right off Van Dyke in Shelby Township, and I work exclusively with one family at a time. Every session is unhurried, private, and completely focused on you and your baby.
The newborn stage is so fleeting. If you’ve been on the fence, I’d love to chat. Reach out to learn more or reserve your session date ideally in the first two weeks after your due date, when babies are still in that sleepy, curly newborn stage.
You deserve beautiful photos. And you deserve the process to feel easy.
